A metaphor I've finally discovered a metaphor for the sound of a Siamese cat in heat: a fire engine stuck in traffic. Not in terms of volume, of course (though not for lack of trying on the cat's part), but the pitch, tone, and urgency are remarkably similar. (Heard the fire engine wailing while walking home from CVS; traffic was backed up in various weird ways, there was honking and shouting everywhere, but I couldn't figure out exactly where the truck was. Anyway, I believe there is a special place in Hell for people who get in, or don't get out of, the way of emergency vehicles that have their lights and sirens going.)
