We're here, we're queer, we're highly unlikely Oddest election news so far: a gay black Republican organization in Texas is endorsing Bush. The most surprising thing about it being, there are enough gay black Republicans in Texas to have an organization. It's a pretty long-standing item of conventional wisdom that there practically are no gay Republicans or black Republicans; and the largest, best-known gay GOP group, the Log Cabin Republicans, just announced that they're not endorsing Bush this time around. ("Just" here meaning "fifteen days ago," which I think counts as recent, even in an election year.) Plus, gay and black in Texas? Okay, I know it's not all good ol' boys and Alamo reenactors and steer wrestlers, but still, it does have that Wild West tough-as-leather super-macho-man mystique about it.
